5 Onboarding Best Practices

December 10, 2024

Great onboarding sets the tone for the entire relationship. Here's what we've learned about creating effective onboarding flows.

1. Keep It Short

Only ask for what you truly need. Every extra field reduces completion rates. If you can get information later, do it later.

2. Be Clear About Requirements

For each step, explain:

  • What you need
  • Why you need it
  • What format is acceptable

Ambiguity causes delays.

3. Set Realistic Deadlines

Give people enough time to gather documents, but not so much that they forget. 7-14 days works well for most situations.

4. Send Reminders

A gentle reminder at the halfway point and a day before the deadline significantly improves completion rates.

5. Make Progress Visible

People are more likely to finish when they can see how far they've come. Show clear progress indicators throughout the process.
