Collecting documents is often the most friction-heavy part of onboarding. Here's how to make it easier.
Accept Multiple Formats
Unless you have a specific reason, accept common formats like PDF, JPG, and PNG. Don't make people convert files unnecessarily.
Provide Examples
When possible, show an example of what a correctly submitted document looks like. This reduces back-and-forth.
Set Appropriate Size Limits
- ID documents: 5MB is usually plenty
- Multi-page contracts: Consider 20MB
- Photos: 10MB handles high-resolution images
Give Clear Naming Guidance
"Upload your ID" is vague. "Upload a clear photo of the front of your government-issued ID" is specific.
Allow Replacements
Mistakes happen. Let people easily replace a document they've already uploaded without starting over.
